aliceday a le plaisir d'accueillir l'exposition Funland de l'artiste japonais Tomoo Gokita. Il présentera conjointement de grandes toiles monochromes grises dans l'espace principal et un grand mur de dessins mêlant portraits, abstractions et études peintes dans la vitrine - project space.

Né à Tokyo en 1969, son travail a été montré à New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Londres et Berlin. Connu au Japon pour ses illustrations publiées notamment dans Lingerie Wrestling en 2000, Tomoo Gokita a débuté sa carrière en montrant des œuvres sur papier dans le cadre d'expositions ou, plus fréquemment, dans les pages d'un magazine pour un projet de création.
Devenu peintre au fil du temps, il puise son inspiration dans le quotidien, les objets usuels qu'il déforme et réinterprète dans des monochromes mystérieux où l'image reconnaissable est constamment perturbée par des dessins organiques qui ne sont pas sans rappeller certaines toiles surréalistes comme celles d'Yves Tanguy.
Les œuvres récentes de Gokita marquent une évolution dans sa pratique : le fond est rapidement brossé, les scènes sont simplifiées, l'abstraction des sujets est plus poussée. A l'instar de fantasmes juvéniles interrompus avant qu'ils ne soient complètement réalisés, sa figuration effrontée est souvent éclipsée par un expressionnisme exigeant qui obscurcit la tête et voile les visages.

The exhibition's title Bambaataa has an onomatopoeic resonance, a remastered ethnic note…

A ricocheting fugue on the manipulation and production of objects made with a edgy meticulousness: a horizontal response from Haim Steinbach; physical and analogical for Dewar & Gicquel; glacial and analytic by Robert Watts; the mises en scène charged with intense psychological tension from Liza-May Post; the forthright unstitching of urban appropriations by Frédéric Platéus and the inch-perfect products of Natalia Brilli.
This selection takes the form of a rebus with the intention of giving an interlaced, visceral reading from objects both heterogeneous and familiar, all produced with conviction.
